  1. I used to regularly have something very similar while living in Beijing.
    In that case, they used whole slices of eggplant and each slice had a light, crispy deep-fried coating. A dry mixture of salt, ground black pepper and ground Sichuan pepper was provided which you would dip the hot slices of eggplant in as you ate. Delicious.
