  1. I got sucked in with the word “healthy.” “Put some bacon in there, good fat in there” bacon is not healthy just to begin with. It’s another version but not better.

  2. Erwan makes ordinary Filipino dishes extraordinary. It does not hurt that he makes them healthier too. I can make this recipe vegan for me or with meat for my family.

  4. Why are so many people here are butthurt with the title "The Better Monggo Stew Recipe"? LOL! Make your own video and call it "best" no big deal! Gosh!

  5. When I was younger I used to like meat in my sauteed mung bean stew(well it does taste different without), but now it doesn't matter and both still taste great. I wonder how the coconut substitute tastes like.

I highly recommend you put ginger(because a lot of people don't) in your munggo, and lots of it! And the effect depends also on the ginger you have. For some reason some gingers have stronger aroma and more flavorful than others. I can't exactly say how you could determine that just by its physical looks when you buy it at the market.

    Great video btw.

  6. From my understanding; when you say 'better', you mean that it's a healthier version right? As opposed to just 'better' in general? Semantics, all these people losing their minds over it haha. Christ. Anyway, another great video, well done! Although I'll always be partial to the less refined, 'throw shit in a pot' version my mama makes, this still looks delish.

  7. Growing up, my mom always soak the monggo beans overnight( the night before cooking) to let all the gas out. This keeps us from developing gas after eating the cooked dish. I wonder if you have heard of this. I have always practiced this step when I cook this dish. Your take on the dish is excellent except that I would avoid the bacon as I am vegan. Great job, Erwan

  8. I don't think it's a "better" version of this Filipino favorite. It's just "another" version of it. Again, just ANOTHER version of monggo not a better version.

  9. Nice! I didn't know you can add coconut milk. I'll try it next time.
As for me, instead of coconut milk, I add sinigang mix (add water of course), use a bit of talbos ng sili and of course chicharon!
