  1. ✿ Veganlovlie Recipes / Tamarind Chutney – Mauritian Vegan : Today’s recipe is a spicy, sweet and sour chutney made with sun-kissed ingredients like tamarind and chillies. ✿ FULL PRINTABLE RECIPE ▶

I am using tamarind paste that comes in a block. It is usually available at any Asian or Indian store (or get it online, link below).

I drew inspiration for this apple tamarind chutney from culinary traditions of a spicy tamarind compote known as ‘takkar’ in Mauritius.
Jaggery is my preferred sugar in this recipe. You can find jaggery at Asian or Indian stores and also online.

  3. Yummy, this reminds me of our mauritian 'takkhar' (not sure how to write this) 🙂 . Will need to make this soon! It would be an amazing and delicious accompaniment to a lot of my meals, instead of eating the other store-bought sauces 😀

  4. Absolutely adored watching this. Never used jaggary or tamarind before – now you have got me really curious… in fact, you often seem to highlight completely new ingredients for me. Very exciting. This is a whole new take on chutney for me. I am inspired 🙂
